On September 3, 2018, Prof. Dr. Heiko Gebauer, project manager of the digital project unit “Data Mining and Value Creation” at Fraunhofer IMW, presented the joint project with the University of Leipzig in the working group Knowledge and Technology Transfer at the premises of the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He focused on first results, derived from interviews with Saxon companies. Furthermore, he showed where the journey for medium-sized businesses in Saxony can lead in the context of digitization.
For example, data are to be used profitably in value-added models adapted to different users. The goal of a Digital Lead Factory is to be the number one in a group of companies – a number one that will be based in Saxony in the future. In addition, digital and data-based solutions strengthen the competitive position of Saxon companies. Following the presentation, the participants vividly discussed the topic of digitization, for example its effects on production processes.
The working group Knowledge and Technology Transfer has been in existence since 2012. Participants from the city of Leipzig, from the districts of Northern Saxony and Leipzig, from the University and the HTWK Leipzig, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Leipzig Chamber of Crafts, the Metropolregion Mitteldeutschland Management GmbH, the Fraunhofer IMW and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research meet regularly to intensify the regional transfer between industry and science. /tw
